The Gulf Coast Girl Choir is an auditioned ensemble for 12-16 year old girls that tours each year.  In 1998 they were selected to premier I Dream of Peace by Robert Jager at the Regional Convention of the American Choral Directors Association in Charleston, SC.  The choir has appeared at the State Convention of ACDA and served as the Guest Artists in Residence at the Festival of Honor Choirs, sponsored by Tennessee Technological University and the Cumberland Children's Chorus.  They have also performed throughout the state of Florida, including Florida State University, the University of Florida, the University of Miami, Disney World and the State Capitol in Tallahassee.

The choir also received the Gold Award and the Adjudicators Award of Excellence at the Heritage Music Festival in Chicago in 1997 and again in Orlando in 1999.  They competed at the Heritage Festival of Gold in Washington D.C. in April 2000, and were selected to perform as a featured choir in the final concert at the Kennedy Center.  Selected members of this choir performed David Fanshawe’s African Sanctus with the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay.  In 2003, the Girl Choir was selected as a featured choir at the National Heritage Festival of Gold in New York City.  In 2004, the choir was invited to perform at the ACDA Southern Division Convention in Nashville.  Also, in 2004, select members participated in the performance of Krystof Penderecki’s “Credo” with the Florida State University Choirs and Symphony Orchestra.

Selection into the choir is based on vocal skills, musicianship and attitude.  In addition to the development of performance skills through quality choral literature, the purposes of this choir are to enhance vocal development, increase sight-singing skills, and develop the individual students musicianship and musical sensitivity.
